This is a love poem I found in a chocolate bar...
What man does not remember the
composition of his first love letter?
The careful writing,
the chosen paper,
the blameless pen,
the repeated failures before final
perfection,
the tender solicitude which allowed
no intervening hand to bear the
laboured missive to the post office,
and the longing anxiety which
awaited a favourable reply...
J.T. Merydew
It's not my favorite poem, but I FOUND IT IN A CHOCOLATE BAR. You pretty much cannot get anymore romantic than that. and It was very good chocolate. Chocolove it says.
If you put together a time capsule today, what would you put in it?
My sister Katie and I made a kind of "audio time capsule" back in the mid '90's. We recorded ourselves on a cassette tape talking about what was going on in our lives and Katie sang this song she wrote that always made me cry. We gave messages to our future selves from our former, cooler, selves-- to remind us. We can't open it until 2010.. which isn't that far away. but I think it will be fun to listen to what we had to say back then.
If I made a time capsule today I would put in it one of those party whistle blower things. Because this is the best year ever. That's all. i can't think of anything else. Maybe a copy of Newsweek and a bottle of champagne.? :)
Did you order Girl Scout cookies this year? What kind?
haha. yeah, actually i did. I was going to buy one or two boxes (they are $4 a box) until the sales girl (Jessica from EYC and my friend Andrea's sister) said they were selling 3 for $12. wow what a great deal. so I thought i went ahead with that deal and ordered three, but i guess not because when the order came in there was just 2, for $8, which is still a good deal. i got the thin mints and the caramelly ones. They are both not my favorite. I always like to remember the line from The Adam's Family this time of year. Some little girl asks Wednesday if the orange juice she is selling is made out of real oranges, and then Wednesday asks the girl if the girl scout cookies are made from real girl scouts! she is funny. I haven't tried the girl scout ice cream, but Erika's dad is all about it.
Plus don't forget..."customers can purchase extra boxes of cookies at site sales and donate them to the Operation Cookie Drop/Gift of Caring project, a council wide community service project which will deliver cookies to Puget Sound military personnel based locally and overseas." What's one of your favorite quotes?
"History is not the past. History is the name of the stories we want to remember."
I heard this the other day on a Nick Jr. special about Black History Month hosted by Linda Ellerby. I don't know if this was her original or if she was quoting someone else. She didn't "quote" anyone so I'm assuming that she or the writers of the show came up with it. It was a good show and I learned a lot about the importance Black History Month-- and some AMAZING contributions that were made to society by African Americans -- many who would not be recognized for their contribution due to the color of their skin.
I don't have time to even get into any of these because I have to go back to work right now.
And just so you know... May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. Tell your friends.
I can't write this to be as funny as it was, but the other day this lady came to the ER with a urinary tract infection with spasms for which she'd been taking a medication called "urispas". or maybe it was "urispaz". no matter how you spell it, there should not be a medicine that sounds like you're-a-spaz. that's just mean.
It took a lot of self control to not burst into laughter at that moment.
However, it was not as bad as the tube of ham incident - I could not hold that one in.
I tried to tell some people at work about "finding your rear end with both hands". They didn't think it was that funny.
They thought i was psycho.
Oh well. i'm eating chocolate ice cream.
